under montreal protocol, r22 refrigerant will meet its global restriction in 2030. it has long been a focus in hvacr industry to find a direct substitution for r22. the most likely to dominate the refrigerant market is hcr22, a hydrocarbon refrigerant, which provides superior performance and is energy-saving and eco-friendly.
(1) new and eco-friendly: hcr22 is a new type of eco-friendly hydrocarbon refrigerant, composing of alkane mixtures of highly purified propane and butane, etc., which is an ozone-safe, environmental friendly and non-greenhouse gas.
(2) economical and practical: the amount of hcr22 used is only 40-55% of that of r22 or r502. hcr22 features low freezing point, greater latent heat of evaporation which enables faster temperature drop in unit time, lower isentropic compression ratio which enables the compressors to work easier and prolongs compressor service life, small molecular weight, good fluidity and lower delivery pressure which reduce compressor load. the use of hcr22 reduces system operating costs and oil and energy consumptions. energy saving rate is up to 35%.
(3) perfectly compatible: hcr22, non-toxic and non-corrosive to metal and rubber, is perfectly compatible with all common refrigerant oils (mineral oil and synthetic oil). there is no need to make any change to refrigeration equipment when switching to use hcr22.
according to the ministry of environmental protection of the people’s republic of china, hcr22 has not been popularly used until 2011 for its recognized explosive and inflammable nature as a hydrocarbon refrigerant.
now hydrocarbon refrigerant is being vigorously promoted in the u.s.a., u.k., singapore, indonesia and other countries. china is starting wide-spread applications of hydrocarbon refrigerant. it is believed that hcr22 will be used in oil-free maglev chillers in the near future.
